Thursday 26th May 2011

Today when mummy picked me up, it was raining a little bit, we got on our bikes and then started riding our bikes. When we got near the toilets, it started raining lots, we had to go and stand inside for a bit, but it didn't start stopping, so we had to go out in it. Mummy said the puddles would be fun, then i saw one and wanted to go through it, so started riding my bike, we rode through them, that was fun, we got really wet. When we got to the cycle path that we always go, there were lots of puddles and i rode through them really fast, i got really wet! i love riding my bike in the rain. When i had to get off because of a hill, i was walking funny because i was so wet, mummy thought i looked funny. When we got home, mummy made me chocolate spread sandwiches, she made them with 3 pieces of bread, i ate two whole pieces and then said, i don't like that, mummy looked at me and said yes you do, you've just eaten lots of it. i smiled. mummy asked if i was ready for pudding, i said yes, so she said i could just say i'd had enough. Mummy made me some cake and custard, that was tasty too. Mummy looked in my mouth before pudding and then said oh, its gone, she took a photo of my mouth and showed me that the stitch i had left was gone, i smiled and said does that mean i can have everything now, mummy said yes, soon, she doesn't want me to have everything straight away, to give it time. I was pleased its gone :-)
This is my mouth today, no stitches, yay. There is chocolate spread around my mouth hehe

Tuesday 24th May 2011

On the way to school today, the rubber bit from my horn fell off, i cried and cried and cried. It made me very sad. We looked for it a little bit, but we had to go to school.
Mummy told my teacher that she was going to pick me up early today because i have the speech therapist at 3. When mummy picked me up, Tom was with her, that made me smile. He had a surprise for me, he had bought me another horn :D  that made me very happy. We said bye to him because we were riding our bikes to the hospital, Tom went home to wait for us there. I done really well, mummy was so proud of me, riding our bikes all the way there, well apart from up the big big hill, because we had to walk with our bikes up that. With Lucy, my speech therapist, i had fun, we played games, but at the start she had to do an assessment on my speech. Then mummy and Lucy talked for a little while and then it was time to play games :-) yay.
(From mummy - Lucy told me (mummy) that you (harriet) still had some nasal sounds and turbulence when saying a few things but because i can't hear them and i told her that no-one has ever said they can hear it either, that its not important, she said that only people like her, in that line of work will be able to hear it)
I had to say sentences, they were funny, things like bob is. Then we played a monkey game, where every time i said a word, i could hang a monkey in a tree to see if they would fall off. I done really well in this game, i like that game too
(from mummy - Lucy said you done really well today, the best she has heard you, you were able to blend sounds like 'class' so instead of saying 'cla s' like you were doing before, it sounded like 'class' and you done that with all of the s words, whether it was at the beginning of the word, even in the middle and then at the end, you done so well! Lucy was really pleased with you and so was i)
After we saw Lucy we went and got on our bikes again and then we had to ride home. We rode through the hospital and when we got to one bit, mummy started to tell me that is where people go when they are pregnant and that is where i was born too. A lady was bringing a baby out when we went past too. I told mummy that when we have a baby, me, her and Tom, that we will need to think of names for the baby. I told mummy that i had some names in my head already, she asked me what they were, one was Harry (this is because of Harry potter, which i've never seen, but because of the children at my last nursery were always talking about it, i think i like it) and the other name was Chloe. Then we carried on riding our bikes. When we got home, Tom met us at the shop and then we walked back together, i said the word 'mouse' and he was really pleased with me, mummy told him all about the therapy session and he was really proud of me too. When we got home, mummy and Tom put my funny things on my spokes on my bike, they go up and down on them, making sounds, like click and clack, i like it. Then mummy and Tom put my new horn on, we didn't mess around with it this time, because mummy thinks that is why my other one broke, ooops.

Monday 23rd May 2011

Today was the first time that me and mummy rode our bikes together on the way to school, it was fun. I was telling mummy about all of the bumps in the path on the cycle track. We got there really fast, to school. It normally takes 45 or 50 minutes when mummy walks with me on my bike, today it took 25 minutes. When mummy picked me up, Tom was with her, that was good. But then i told mummy that i wanted her to ride her bike with me, not walk :-( so Tom got a bus instead. We rode our bikes home and it was fun again, i stopped a couple of times, but not too much. It started raining a little on the way home, but i liked that. When we got to the top of the hill, mummy pointed to the bus and said look, Toms on there, he was and we waved to him. I rode my bike on the road for some of the way home, i liked doing that. When we got home, mummy made me some dinner and then i saw a bag on the sofa, i took it to Tom in their bedroom and he said oh, is that for me, thats strange, because look, it has this in it, it was a bike horn. He squeezed it and it was really loud. Mummy liked it and took it and done it lots and lots. I took it off of her in the end, naughty mummy hehe. But she got it back again, then started making lots of noise again. I told her one more turn and then i took it away and hid it in the bag.

Sunday 22nd May 2011

When mummy picked me up from Nanny's house (i cycled all the way to Nanny's house yesterday) and when mummy got me, we cycled all the way home together too. I didn't have to stop too many times. We had to go in all of the puddles on the way home and then make wobbly lines with our tyres, it was fun. When we got home, we got my trolley out and mummy pulled me to tesco in it. I fell asleep on the way there
When we had finished our shopping, we went home again. At home i played and then mummy made me yorkshire pudding, that is the first time i've been able to have that since my mouth was fixed :-) it was yummy. Then mummy asked if i would like to go to the pub to meet Tom, he had finished work early. I smiled a big smile and said yes, so we got ready and left. I took my scooter. When we got to the other side of the park, Tom was there, he had walked to meet us. We walked to the pub all together, down the hill that i normally walk down with my scooter, i went down on my scooter, it was lots of fun. I like the pub that we go to, it has a slide and climbing frame in. When we got to the garden, i had some of my water and then ran off to play. I kept going back to get a drink or to talk. Their table was right next to the slide, that was good. I went down the slide lots of funny ways, it was fun. I tried going on the digger, but it wouldn't work on the grass or around the slide, so i got off. A little boy came out and was talking to me, loudly. Then he pushed my hands off of the steps, mummy said its because he is small and thought that he couldn't go up it with my hands on the side. After we had our drink, we walked home again, i got some wotsits to have with some sandwiches when we got home. After eating my sandwiches it was time for bed.

Friday 13th and Saturday 14th May 2011

Friday 13th May 2011
When we got home, we weren't in for very long, because we walked Tom to the bus stop with my trolley and then we went to tesco in it. At tesco, we bought things for the picnic that we are going on tomorrow. I helped mummy and pulled the trolley part of the way home.
Saturday 14th May 2011
When we got up today, mummy reminded me that we are going for a picnic. When mummy and Tom got up, mummy went and made lots for the picnic and Tom sat in the living room with me. Then mummy said it was ready. I asked mummy if i could take my bike with us to the park, she checked the tyres on the bigger one and they were a little flat and we don't have a pump yet so i had to take my smaller bike. I was really excited about taking my bike. We got my trolley ready and loaded it up with our picnic. Then i started wheeling my bike to the park, we only went to the one near our home because the weather wasn't very nice. When we got there, mummy set a blanket out and then put all of my food out on it, there was loads. I had hotdogs, spaghettie, scrambled egg, sandwiches (2lots) custard, yoghurts, bananas and that was it. I had a big smile when i saw it all. I couldn't eat it all, but i did try. I didnt like cold scrambled egg, but i did want to try it. I was really excited to ride my bike, so we all went outside the park bit, so i could try. Mummy had to hold on to my bike a few times, to let me try with her holding on to me. i had a few practices and really liked it, Tom was watching me too. Then mummy said we should try it on the basket ball bit, as the grass is quite hard to cycle on. I was able to cycle for a bit by myself on the grass but kept falling side ways. Then when we got to the concrete, i was away, i was so pleased. Tom and mummy were really proud of me.
This is me with my picnic :-)

Tom having his picnic

I love my trolley :-D

Me and Tom

This is me riding my bike across the basketball bit

I then tried using my new skates that mummy and Tom bought me, they are like roller blades but they have stabilisers. I was a bit wobbly at first, mummy held my hand and then i could move in them, only a little bit at a time though. Mummy pulled me really fast in them, that was fun.
This is me stood up by myself in my skates

It started to rain a little bit, but i was still allowed to have a play in the park. Mummy and Tom had some cuddles when i was playing. I like that mummy and Tom cuddle and kiss lots.
I went on the slide and climbing frame and then i called mummy over, because i wanted to try and walk over the rope bridge, normally i'm really scared to try that. Mummy stood below me and i stepped on to it and then walked across, holding on to one side. When i got to the other side, mummy showed me how to hold on to both sides and then walk across facing forwards. I done it! When it was time to leave, mummy said i could ride my bike home, to have more practice, i liked that. I got my helmet on and then started riding it. Tom showed me how to start off by myself, i could do that sometimes and other times i needed mummy to help me. I rode my bike all the way home, i was very wobbly on the path, but didn't crash into a car or fall off of the pavement.
When we took everything upstairs we got ready and then went out again. I walked because Tom reminded me that the path is very narrow on the way to cowley centre, so i would be too wobbly on my bike. On the way to cowley centre, we were all walking together and Tom said something, but i didn't hear what he said. i smiled and asked him what he said, because i knew it was something about getting me something, he said he couldn't remember. Then he started saying lots of silly things like he was going to get me double yellow lines, socks, underpants and i kept saying no thats not it, and he wouldn't tell me. I think he did remember, he was just teasing me. All the way there, he couldn't remember, he just kept telling me silly things, it was funny. When we got there, we went and got a pump for my other bike, I was still asking Tom what he had said, he said a sound and mummy told me to listen to the sound and thats what he had said. I thought he said something different, but mummy has a rubbish memory and can't remember what i thought he said. Then he told me that it was a comic, if i was good, he would buy me a comic. I smiled and said i thought it would be that. Tom needed to go to one more shop and me and mummy looked at a stall in the middle, but it was boring, so we sat down and waited. When he came back, i whinged a bit, asking when we could get my comic, but mummy and Tom said no whinging, so i had to smile, which i did. We went to WHSmith and then mummy and Tom took me upstairs to look at the books, as Tom said he would buy me a book instead if i wanted. I looked, but got bored, then said i needed a wee, desperately. (i didn't really because as soon as we went to look at comics, i suddenly didn't need one and all the way home too) We found a comic that had stickers and a small golf club. On the bus on the way home, mummy and Tom said i could make a crazy golf course, Tom had the idea that i could use my bricks, so mummy said aww is Tom going to help us. When we got home, i had a sandwich and then sat next to my garage for my cars, it has lots of road bits and hills, mummy said it would make a good crazy golf course, so we played crazy golf on it. Tom beat us both, again, he is good at crazy golf
This is Tom having a turn at our crazy golf course

Tuesday 3rd May 2011

Today was my first day back to school since having my mouth fixed :-)
(mummy forgot to put this in the last post, but after 2 weeks i didn't need Ibuprofen and was only having calpol in the morning and evening and just before school, i wasn't having it at all :-) )
Yesterday, i was allowed to have sandwiches for the first time, without crusts. I was so pleased to be able to, it tasted soooooooooo good.
At school, mummy spoke to my teacher, saying that i still needed to rinse my mouth with water after eating and drinking everything and that i wasn't on pain relief anymore. Also that i wasn't allowed anything hard, so no apple, pear etc. I done really well at remembering this at school. Mummy was a bit nervous about leaving me the first day, but was pleased and proud of me when i done well.

Sunday 24th April - 28th April 2011

Sunday 24th - We had to pack our bags for our holiday, i am very excited. Tom had to go to work, so mummy finished packing his stuff for him. All day i had to wait, i kept asking mummy, is it time yet, is it time yet. While i played, mummy tidied and cleaned. Then it was time to leave :D we stopped at Voirreys first, because she is looking after the kittens for us and mummy posted the keys through the letter box because Voirrey was working still. Then we drove to Toms work. Tom had a bottle of water for me to have, because mummy had left mine on the side at home. Then we were on our way. It was a long way and i fell asleep in the end (5 hours) We left at 7.15pm and got there at 12.15 in the morning. When i woke up, i was really excited, we were on holiday. Mummy took me inside and made my special bed up and put me to bed, i was asleep very quickly.
Monday - Wednesday
We went to sainsbury's for breakfast every morning of our holiday, i was allowed to have scrambled egg, which i love now, i never used to like it. We had a really nice time. We stayed in Aunty Brendas chalet and i loved being able to play outside whenever i wanted to. We went to lots of different places, every day and i loved every minute of our holiday, it was so much fun.

Sunday 8 May 2011

16th April 2011 - 23rd April 2011

Mummy says sorry to the grown up Harriet who is reading this as she hasn't been keeping up to date with my blog recently. We have been so busy that there hasn't been much time. Mummy is going to fill it in like this for the few weeks that she has missed.
On the Sunday 17th April, Tom had to go to work and me and Mummy stayed in all day. We packed my suitcase for the hospital, i liked packing it. I packed teddy's, the ones that Tom bought me and I took some drawing things, because i wanted to draw with Mummy and Tom at the hospital. Then Mummy told me that i could have all of my favourite things for dinner as it was the last time for a while that i will be able to eat proper food. I also ate lots of chocolate that day too, so much that in the end i didn't want any more.
This is what i chose to have, yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, pasta and carrots with gravy, it was yummy
After i finished eating my dinner, mummy gave me a bath and then it was time for bed. Mummy told me that in the morning i would be going to hospital, i was excited.
The next day, 18th April 2011, I woke up at 5am, saying i felt sick because i was hot. Mummy got me a drink and tried getting me back to sleep, i did for a little while but then was awake again. I still said i felt sick because i was hot. I kept running to the toilet to be sick, i was sick a little bit. We got up at about 5.20 in the end. Mummy gave me a big bottle of water as i was only allowed to drink water up until 6.30. Mummy done my hair, she done it in 5 french plaits so that when they done the operation, my hair was out of the way. I sat nicely for my hair to be done, and kept drinking too. At 6.30 mummy took the water away and i watched telly for a while. Tom got up not long after and we all got ready to leave. Nana picked us up at 7.15 and we all got in her car. At the hospital, i was still saying i felt sick. Mummy and Tom think it could be me feeling a little bit nervous about the hospital. There were lots of children waiting outside the ward, it was the ward i had my pre-assessment, the daycare ward and the one that i was waiting to go on, Robins ward that were both next to each other. Most of the children went into the daycare ward. There were just 3 of us waiting to go in the ward where i was going. A lady came and found us and took us all to a room where there were coloured, numbered chairs. We were sat on number 3 chairs, they were orange. A lady came over and asked some questions and had to fill some paperwork in. We were in this room from 7.30 until almost 12.30. I had magic cream put on both of my hands, that is for the butterfly straw that i was told about at my pre-assessment. When we had finished talking to doctors, nurses etc we were allowed to play. A play specialist found me some colouring and i sat and coloured for a little while, mummy coloured with me. The play specialist also found the fairy book that i wanted to look at when the sleepy medicine went in, we looked at that for a little while, it was good. Then mummy asked for a DVD player, so we watched some DVD's for a little while, but i was starting to get quite bored then. We were allowed to go to the out door play room then, i was really excited about that, Tom went with us too. Him and mummy sat while i played, i loved going on the small bike, wizzing round on it. We went back in after i played for a while, everyone else had gone from the big room now, mummy said they were having their operations. We sat for a bit longer and then the play specialist came back and said we could go to the sensory room if we wanted to, we did so she went to get the key. We all walked there and took our shoes off when we got in there, it was really good. It was dark in there, with lots of lights and buttons. There was a big, huge rocking chair and Tom sat in it and i sat on the edge, we were throwing big soft balls at each other and then Mummy was doing rolly polly'sthey put my butterfly straw in it. I could feel something happening to my hand, mummy could see that i was starting to get a little upset, so she started talking about the fairy book, we started looking for the fairies. When they gave me my hand back, they showed me the butterfly straw. I looked a little worried, but mummy made me laugh, we still looked for the fairies, then they said it was time to have my sleepy medicine put in. They put a syringe to the butterfly straw and i could see that it had white medicine in. Mummy told me to remember that i was going to count to 12, i had already started getting a little sleepy, then i started counting to 12 but really fast, i managed it, just, before i fell asleep. Mummy laid me on the bed and then gave me a kiss.
After my operation, i was in a strange room, called the recovery room. I saw mummy and Tom come in and i looked a bit sad. Mummy came straight over to me and touched my hand, she smiled and said hello to me. Mummy found it hard to not cry when she saw me, because i looked all sleepy and sad. I was wheeled back to the ward, where i had a bed. Mummy stayed next to my bed as they wheeled me down. When we got there, mummy lifted me up and put me on the bed carefully, she gave me a cuddle before putting me back on the bed. She put the sides up and asked if i was sleepy, i shook my head. i tried to talk and sounded croaky, mummy said i didn't have to talk and i tried saying i want to. My eyes started closing but i tried really hard to keep them open. Mummy put my telly on, near my bed, i was trying so hard to keep my eyes open to watch it. I finally gave in and closed them, but opened them every now and then, made sure mummy and Tom were still there and that my telly was still there and then closed them again. When i woke up again, i was a little more with it. Tom got my teddy's out and hid one behind the curtain, he played peek-a-boo with it and i smiled within 5 minutes of waking up properly. I watched DVDs in bed, Tom gave me my small cushion and i used it as a chin rest as i couldnt' hold my head up still. The nurse put a drip in my hand as i wasn't drinking very much, so i was having a drink through my hand, that was funny. My Nanny and Daddy came to see me, they stayed for maybe 5 or 10 minutes, not for very long. Then Nana and Chris came, they stayed for a while, talking to me and making me smile. I kept making the alarm go off, because the heart monitor was attached to my finger, i thought it was funny when it went off, mummy and Tom kept saying 'is that you again' to make me smile, it kept slipping off, which is why the alarm kept going off.  Tom had to leave, as it was nearly time for visitors to leave :-( so mummy walked him to the lift while nana and chris were still there.. They stayed with me until mummy came back. When they left, we played some of the card games that they had bought me. I was talking and smiling now, lots. I had a little bit of fromage frais at 9pm. Then rinsed my mouth out with water. Mummy sat in bed with me and we watched a DVD. Then mummy said it was time to go to sleep. I was sleepy and went to sleep quite quickly. In the night, the nurse had to wake me up twice to give me medicine.
The next day (19th May) i woke up at 6.30am and asked mummy if we could get up, she said yes. As soon as i was dressed, i wanted to go and play in the playroom. Mummy said if i had some fromage frais and water, then yes i could. I had a couple of mouthfuls of fromage frais, it felt funny and then i drank some water. Mummy was really pleased and let me go and play. I was wizzing round on the bike and mummy smiled to see me full of energy, she was worried that i would be sad, but i wasn't, i was talking fine, laughing, smiling, it was good fun. One of the play specialists told us that at 10.30am there is a magician, i had a huge smile, couldnt' wait. We went there together, he was really funny. Tom couldn't come to the hospital today, he was working :-( but he sent mummy lots of messages, asking if i was ok. He finished at 3, so was home not long after we got home. The nurses were really pleased with me, i ate some lunch too and they told me that i could go home :D yay. Mummy got all of my medicines and then phoned Nana and we waited outside the hospital for Nana to come and pick us up. The little boy who had a similar operation to me, Zach, wasn't allowed home yet because he still wasn't taking his medicine or having a drink or food :( his mummy was sad. Nana picked us up and i was a little bit quiet in the car. Don't know why because i had been talking all morning. When we got home, i was good and watched some tv, gave the kittens lots of cuddles. But when it came to taking my medicine, i screamed and cried and shouted. Tom was home too. Mummy got cross after she tried talking to me and explaining that i needed to take it, and i wouldnt' listen. Mummy says she was scared because she knew i needed to take it and mummy cried lots that night when i went to bed, because it had made her very sad :( i finally took my medicine and calmed down and then went to bed.
The next day, with the medicine again, i cried and shouted, didn't want it. I told mummy i didn't like the taste of it, but she told me that i needed it until it had run out because it is a little stronger than calpol. I finally took it again. On Thursday of the same week, mummy was finally able to swap the nasty tasting medicines for nice ones that i like, and from then on, i took my medicine really well, didn't cry at all.
